Choice: Does It Really Matter?
Defining Good People through the Choices We Make
A Multigenre Inquiry Project
Angelique Reynolds
Wake Forest University
This multi genre inquiry project is the result of a major assignment of my English methods course at Wake Forest University. This class is designed to help future English teachers learn how to teach English at the Secondary level. We were asked to select a piece of literature, identify and select a theme, and explore that theme through at least 8 different "genres."
From David Lindsay-Abaire's play, Good People, I chose the theme "Choice: Does it Really Matter?" This theme asks readers to think about the choices that they have, or do not have and the effects of those choices. This theme is vital to any student but particularly to high school students in low SES schools. Upon completion of the unit, I hope to influence students by giving them text that they can connect to and text that will encourage them to consider the choices they have and the consequences of each choice.
This project consists of the following genres:
1. Research Paper: "Choice: Does it Really Matter?"
2. Motivational Poster: "Choice & Chance"
3. Postcard Conversation: "Choice: The Great Debate"
4. Infographic: "All About Choice"
5. Cartoon: "The Paradox of Choice"
6. Choicewear: "Why Making Choices Matter"
7. Lesson Plan: "Students Learn about Choice"
