"It's Margaret, we grew up together in Southie and dated for a few months before you left to go to school. I heard you're a doctor now. That's great to hear. I'm still her in Southie and I cant keep a job worth anything but its not my fault. I wasn't as lucky as you. You had your father to push you but I didn't. Now you're the lace curtain that we use to joke about years ago. Anyhow, I'm just writing to see if you had any jobs open. I'm wiling to do anything. I just need a steady income for Josie's sake."

"Of course I remember you, I hope all is well. Lace curtain? What does that mean? I grew up in the same neighborhood as you. I am not lucky. I just worked extremely hard. I am offended that you have the assumption that I have changed because of my salary, home or occupation. Please do not define me based on my occupation or degree. And luck? Are you seriously equating my success to luck? I had choice. Hard choices. I decided to stop skipping school but rather focus on school. I decided to stop dating you…. You had choices too Margaret.
On another note, I apologize but I do not have any jobs for you at the moment. Not even as secretary or janitors because we hire outside of the company. I am having a party this weekend if you want to join. There will be a lot of rich and important people and I am sure one of the can offer you some sort of job."

"You're right. I did have choices. I made the choice to keep Josie and let you go. I let you get an education and leave this hole. I made that choice for you while I sit here and struggle. I am unhappy. The life that you live. That should be mine. Your wife, it should be me. You would be stuck here too if it were not for my decisions. Now I am here taking care of Josie alone with no money to my name.
I, like anyone else is free is to make any choice we want but we are not free from the consequences of those choices. I guess I must continue to face the consequences of one choice that will forever change my life. Perhaps in my next life I will control my fate with my decisions so that I am a lace curtain like you- rich, boogie and too good for Southie!"
